MySQL (deprecated) vs. MySQLi

I want to migrate my blogs from unsupported sqlite to MySQL. I connected to /dotclear/install/wizard.php, and am puzzled by the 3 choices there.

Why is MySQL deprecated?

How is MySQLi better?

MySQL itself is not deprecated, but the PHP MySQL driver is deprecated since php 5.5.

MySQLi is the new PHP driver to connect to MySQL databases. If you are prompted for both MySQL and MySQLi, that means that your hoster supports MySQLi, therefore I advise you to choose mysqli. We have kept MySQL in the combo box mainly for compatibility purpose for people who wish to continue with legacy mysql driver.
