How to get an error log file when connection to pgsql server fails

Hello Franck and Phillip

A friend of mine uses Dotclear too. Our provider wants to switch soon to PHP7.2 and with that, our 10 years old DC installation with MySQL will not work.

I'm on a different server than she is.

I had no problem at all to connect Dotclear to my new PGSL database, but I can't connect in my friends case.I get always the message "cannot connect".
Do you know where or how I can get error log files that tell me what exactly the issue is?

Thanks in advance!

I Dotclear.

Re : How to get an error log file when connection to pgsql server fails

Sorry, for my part I am not used to PostgreSQL. But documentation says the logs should be in /var/log/postgresql on the server.

This is if you can access your server using SSH, otherwise your hosting provider might give you an access through its account management.

However, if it works with one site and not the other on the same platform, then you should check in the database through pgadmin (not sur of the name, but equivalent to PhpMyAdmin for mysql or mariadb database) to see if the username or password can be regenerated, in case there is a forbidden letter or character in one of them?

One remark: Dotclear 2.13.n is not fully compatible with PHP 7.2, but the next 2.14 will be.

Many thanks Franck, you led me to the right track for our provider :-)

Update: I then tried to install Wordpress on the same fonsin/server setting and this also doesn’t worked. This shows tgat this particular server has got an issue.
