Cloning error

Hi everyone.

Today I tried to clone my dotclear blog before upgrading and received the following message from softacolous:

The following errors were found :

Could not make the query numbered : 0
    MySQL Error No : 1701
MySQL Error : Cannot truncate a table referenced in a foreign key constraint (`bluestar_blueclo`.`dc8v_notice`, CONSTRAINT `dc8v_fk_notice_session` FOREIGN KEY (`ses_id`) REFERENCES `bluestar_blueclo`.`dc8v_session` (`ses_id`))

Anyone knows what this means and how to fix it so I can clone my blog?

Re : Cloning error

Hi,

I’m not sure what you mean by « clone » your blog, but if you want to duplicate your database tables, you will have to proceed in a certain order to avoid foreign keys errors.

I suggest to make a simple backup of your database tables (or an export with Dotclear embedded plugin) before upgrading.

Re : Cloning error

Hi,

My hosting company uses c-panel. In the c-panel there is a software called Softacolous which can be used to install and manage all kinds of available softwares for a site. Softaculous has a feature that allows one to "clone" each installed program like dotclear. It used to have a "backup" feature but that is no longer available.

When I press the "clone" button for dotclear, softaculous starts the process but then finds the error I showed in my prior entry and stops the process.

Re : Cloning error

OK,

Thanks for clearing that out. If you have access to phpMyAdmin or a similar tool, you can backup your database data. Or you can use the Dotclear Import/Export plugin to save all your blog(s) contents in a text files. This won’t save your medias, but from there you can rebuild a Dotclear installation even if the upgrade failed horribly (which remains quite unlikely) and have all your contents restored.

I don’t know precisely how the Softaculous tool works, but it obviously doesn’t go well with foreign key constraints which are in the Dotclear database structure.

Re : Cloning error

Thanks. I will do the backup manually.
